Community Care Guidelines
Care as resistance and accountability
We centre care and compassion as acts of resistance, building our community on trust, responsibility, freedom, and accountability. Our organizational relationships are rooted in listening, mutual respect, and meaningful participation. We acknowledge our own privileges and positions of power, committing to use them responsibly and avoiding assumptions on others or generalizations of our own experiences.
Zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment
Discrimination and harassment of any kind are strictly forbidden, including discriminatory language and terminology. We actively oppose all forms of colonialism, racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, and any other bigotry. Our community maintains clear boundaries against repressive or offensive speech and behaviour.
Respect for individuality and diversity
We appreciate individuality and diversity, creating space for everyone to express themselves while respecting their boundaries. We recognize different types of knowledge and treat all people equally with dignity, without making assumptions based on personal characteristics or backgrounds. Everyone has the right to decide what they share, and we actively listen to understand diverse perspectives and experiences.
Learning through mistakes and empathy
We accept that mistakes happen and view them as opportunities for growth and learning. We encourage everyone to take responsibility for their words and actions, fostering an atmosphere of openness and encouragement. We urge discussion, curiosity, and empathy when navigating complex and emotional topics, maintaining a respectful and safe space throughout.
If you experience or witness something that goes against our community guidelines, you may contact Sumud’s Harassment contact person Aurora Lemma via auroranegestlemma (at) gmail.com or Sumud’s Executive Director Ida-Emilia Reini via director (at) sumud.fi. Every report will be handled with care. We promise to review each case thoroughly, consult Sumud’s board when appropriate, and take the necessary measures to ensure that our community remains welcoming and respectful for all.
