Local chapters
Sumud has local chapters around Finland. The local chapters operate independently, organising various Palestine solidarity events and working on Sumud’s campaigns in their localities. Sumud supports the local chapters according to the size of the town, based on an agreed annual budget. Local chapters are made up of an annually elected local chapter board of at least three Sumud members. Local chapters must organise at least three events per year. In addition to the board positions, you can be active in a local chapter by helping and organising demonstrations, film screenings, book clubs, discussion panels and other activities aimed at raising awareness of the situation in Palestine and ways to make a change through activism. Members of local chapters should commit to Sumud’s policy of inclusion and anti-racism. Local chapters across Finland are networked with each other. The aim is to conduct effective and sustainable activism to end Finnish support for the Israeli genocide, apartheid and illegal occupation. Sumud Helsinki
There have been demonstrations and Palestine solidarity events in Helsinki since October 2023. The local chapter has organically formed from old and new activists and started working in the form of a local chapter in the summer of 2024. Helsinki local chapter organises a monthly Palestine Cafe event for community support and onboarding new activists. We have also organised book clubs and panels. The big demonstrations, flash demos and info stands are organized together with other organizations like Students for Palestine and Palcif. We have active WhatsApp-groups for discussions and planning but you are also welcome to only show up for events. Currently, the Helsinki local chapter consists of five working groups that plan demonstrations, events, media work, orientation and cooperation with other groups. You are welcome to join all groups. You can also participate by following the “tasks” group on WhatsApp, where various tasks related to events are shared. We meet once a month (the 13th) to discuss and plan future events. Sumud Hämeenlinna
Sumud Hämeenlinna has existed since autumn 2024. Activities include demonstrations, film screenings and craft nights. Sumud Hämeenlinna works in close cooperation with the HAMK Students for Palestine collective and with local activism in Palestine in general. Sumud Hämeenlinna warmly welcomes new members, helpers and anyone interested in the activities. Sumud Hämeenlinna is best reached via email and on Instagram.
Sumud Jyväskylä
The Sumud Jyväskylä chapter was established in autumn 2024 and closely cooperates with Free Palestine JKL, a free collective that has been working to locally spread awareness on the situation in Palestine since October 2023. We also have a shared WhatsApp community. We have been mostly organising demonstrations, actions of protest and film screenings, and we would like to organise more cultural events to raise awareness and spread knowledge about Palestinian history and culture. We also collaborate with Soraääni, a local singing group that supports human rights. We also sell Crafts4Gaza items to raise money for Gaza and we have our own arts and crafts group. Sumud Kouvola
Sumud Kouvola chapter was established in mid-October 2024. We plan to meet approximately once a month, and organize demonstrations, Cafe Palestine, movie nights, as well as discussion events. Sumud Kuopio
Sumud Oulu
In Sumud Oulu we have organized demonstrations every other week since the Sumud Oulu chapter was established in mid-August 2024. Our team consists of about ten members, but we cooperate closely with Oulu Voices for Palestine and Freedom Crocheters Oulu among other organizations. Together, we have also organized a cultural event at the university and even got to send our greetings to president Stubb during his visit to Oulu. Feel free to come along! Sumud Tampere
Sumud Tampere has been organizing numerous Palestine-related events since 2023, such as film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, book clubs, and hangout nights. We meet once a month to plan activities, and you’re welcome to join us! There are various roles available, for example, in communications, events, and campaigns.
