Local chapters
Sumud has local chapters around Finland. The local chapters operate independently, organising various Palestine solidarity events and working on Sumud’s campaigns in their localities. Sumud supports the local chapters according to the size of the town, based on an agreed annual budget. Local chapters are made up of an annually elected local chapter board of at least three Sumud members. Local chapters must organise at least three events per year. In addition to the board positions, you can be active in a local chapter by helping and organising demonstrations, film screenings, book clubs, discussion panels and other activities aimed at raising awareness of the situation in Palestine and ways to make a change through activism. Members of local chapters should commit to Sumud’s policy of inclusion and anti-racism. Local chapters across Finland are networked with each other. The aim is to conduct effective and sustainable activism to end Finnish support for the Israeli genocide, apartheid and illegal occupation. Sumud Helsinki
There have been demonstrations and Palestine solidarity events in Helsinki since October 2023. The local chapter has organically formed from old and new activists and started working in the form of a local chapter in the summer of 2024. Helsinki local chapter organises a monthly Palestine Cafe event for community support and onboarding new activists. We have also organised book clubs and panels. The big demonstrations, flash demos and info stands are organized together with other organizations like Students for Palestine and Palcif. We have active WhatsApp-groups for discussions and planning but you are also welcome to only show up for events. Currently, the Helsinki local chapter consists of five working groups that plan demonstrations, events, media work, orientation and cooperation with other groups. You are welcome to join all groups. You can also participate by following the “tasks” group on WhatsApp, where various tasks related to events are shared. We meet once a month (the 13th) to discuss and plan future events. You are welcome to join our group and contact us through our Instagram or email us. You can also come and meet us personally at the Palestine cafés at Oranssi in Suvilahti once a month. Sumud Jyväskylä
The Sumud Jyväskylä chapter was established in autumn 2024 and closely cooperates with Free Palestine JKL, a free collective that has been working to locally spread awareness on the situation in Palestine since October 2023. We also have a shared WhatsApp community. We have been mostly organising demonstrations, actions of protest and film screenings, and we would like to organise more cultural events to raise awareness and spread knowledge about Palestinian history and culture. We also collaborate with Soraääni, a local singing group that supports human rights. We also sell Crafts4Gaza items to raise money for Gaza and we have our own arts and crafts group. Sumud Kouvola
Sumud Kouvola has been active since October 2024. We meet approximately once every one or two months for different activities and events. In Kouvola, we organise Palestine cafés, handicraft workshops, film screenings and other cultural events. We also invite experts to Kouvola to give talks and discuss current topics. You are warmly welcome to join our events! You can also become part of our active group and help plan and organise activities together.
Sumud Kuopio
Sumud Oulu
Sumud Oulu was founded in August 2024. We work closely with other local Palestine solidarity groups, such as Vapauden Virkkaajat Oulu (Crafts4Gaza). At the heart of our activities is Café Palestine, a pop-up cultural café held on the last Sunday of every month. The café is a relaxed meeting place where you can enjoy a cup of tea, meet new people, learn about Palestinian culture and get involved in our activities. We also organise a variety of activities at the café, including arts and crafts workshops, film screenings, discussions and lectures. Everyone who respects our anti-racist and safer space principles is welcome. We also meet 1-2 times a month to get to know each other and plan activities together. We collaborate with other local groups and participate in demonstrations, for example by organising information and merchandise stalls. New members, potential partners and anyone interested in our activities are warmly welcome to join us! There are many ways to get involved, from communications and event planning to baking, crafts and practical arrangements. No previous experience or long-term commitment is required. Come as you are and contribute as much as you can. The best ways to reach us are through Instagram and email, or by dropping by Café Palestine on the last Sunday of the month. Sumud Tampere
Since 2023, Sumud Tampere has organised numerous Palestine-related events, including film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, a book club and casual get-togethers. We meet once a month to plan our activities, and new participants are always welcome! There are many ways to get involved, including communications, events and campaigns. Sumud Turku
Sumud Vaasa
Sumud Vaasa was established in spring of 2026. We have organised protests and other events in support for Palestine in Vaasa since 2023, but called ourselves Vaasa for Palestine until becoming an official Sumud chapter. In addition to protests on Vaasa market square, we have organised events doing arts and crafts together, had music at our Anti-vision event and film screenings. We have been at cultural events organised by other organisations and participated there by selling Crafts4Gaza's merch. We have also had Crafts4Gaza merch at market events in Vaasa and near by e.g. Night of Arts and May 1st. Welcome to the Vaasa community and help our group grow and develop further!
